It was just a few days ago that New Orleans Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans suggested his team could be the ‘next’ Golden State Warriors.
Now it’s the turn of the Houston Rockets, specifically general manager Daryl Morey, who quietly hinted James Harden‘s Rockets could potentially do exactly what Stephen Curry‘s Warriors did last season.
In a work, sneak up on everybody.
Morey wasn’t going to go as far as claiming an NBA championship, but he seems to feel as if they can compete for such.
âYou go back a year and look at Golden State,â Morey said. âThey pretty much brought their same group back, plus a point guard, Shaun Livingston. They werenât the favorites of a lot of people. They came together quickly. They had a great season. A lot of their improvement was just in everyone being together for another year.
âThat plus (the addition of) Ty (Lawson) and good health are the main areas for us.â
âThis is the first time I feel like, without any changes, weâre good enough to win it,â he said.
The always tough Western Conference didn’t get much lighter this offseason – if anything it probably grew a bit deeper. So the path to the NBA Finals isn’t going to be an easy one.
