NBA Trade Rumors: Celtics, Rockets Talk Dwight Howard Trade

Might Dwight Howard‘s tenure with the Houston Rockets be coming to an end? While it seems unlikely, the New York Daily News reports that both the Rockets and Boston Celtics have discussed a trade in which Dwight Howard would make his way to Beantown.

While it’s not known what pieces would be sent to Clutch City, assuming a trade was to go down, it seems likely to include a variety of draft picks given the amount Boston currently owns.

Meanwhile, the Celtics have engaged the Houston Rockets in talks about a possible deal for Dwight Howard, the Daily News has learned. Howard can opt out of his contract this summer, and considering his back and knee issues, it doesn’t make much sense for Boston GM Danny Ainge to use the assets on a player with declining skills and a battered body.

Boston, which either owns or controls the Brooklyn Nets’ next three first-round picks, are positioned to make a major move either before the trade deadline or this summer around the draft. Another division rival, Toronto, owns the Knicks’ pick.

You’d have to assume players like Isaiah Thomas would remain with the Celtics, given an acquisition of Howard would be for a playoff push.
