Troy Aikman: Cowboys Will Sign Johnny Manziel Or RGIII

Dallas Cowboys

While Tony Romo will be under center for the Dallas Cowboys next season as their starting signal caller, Johnny Manziel or RGIII might handle back up duties.

That’s the word from Cowboys legend and FOX Sports broadcaster Troy Aikman, who says he believes Manziel or Robert Griffin will be a member of America’s Team next season.

Per Sports Illustrated:

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman told SI Now’s Maggie Gray on Tuesday that he expects Robert Griffin III or Johnny Manziel to serve asTony Romo’s back-up next season.

“I believe as I sit here today that either Johnny Manziel or Robert Griffin III will be in Dallas as a back-up,” Aikman said.

Both Manziel and Griffin played high school and college football in Texas.

Such news isn’t exactly shocking considering RGIII has a bevy of support within the Cowboys franchise while Manziel is a favorite of owner Jerry Jones.

Of course, RGIII will be on the wire this offseason while Johnny Manziel’s status remains unknown, though it’s likely he’ll be a free agent as well.

Neither is probably what Dallas needs, especially given the distraction factor, but that’s never stopped Jerry Jones before.
