PlayStation 5 Release Date Not Impacted By COVID-19 Corona Virus; Expected 2020 Holiday Season

Hoping to get your hands on the PlayStation 5 this holiday season? Sony has some good news for those who are, as they recently announced there are no plans to delay the PS5 release date.

Speculuation had suggested a Playstation 5 release date could be pushed back, perhaps until quarter four of 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact in Asia, but that is not expected to be the case.

Regarding the launch of PlayStation 5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season. At this point in time major problems have not arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony’s own first-party studios or its partners’ studios.

Sony has been pushing hard, both in their factories and financially, to make the Playstation 5 available for purchase this holiday season and while the Corona virus certainly seemed possible to cause a delay, it looks like many homes will be enjoying the PS5 this holiday season.

Of course, getting your hands on one, might be a different story, as Amazon is already anticipating selling out of the video game console within minutes of putting it up for pre-order.
