Pro Surfer Attacked By Shark During Competition (Video)

Pro surfer Mick Fanning received the scare of his life on Saturday as the legend was attacked by a shark during the J-Bay Open in South Africa.

Fanning was out in open water awaiting his next set of waves on his surfboard when a shark appeared in the video frame.

You can then see Mick Fanning begin to panic as he’s taken from behind by the shark and struggle with the animal for a few moments before it appears to swim away, leaving Fanning alone.

“I was just sitting there and I felt something just get stuck in my leg rope, and I was kicking trying to get it away,” Fanning said per the video.

“I just saw fins. I was waiting for the teeth to come at me. I punched it in the back.”

The shark attack, which is likely to be from at least one or two Great White sharks, occurred in the finals of the competition against fellow Australian Julian Wilson.

After Mick Fanning was attacked by the shark, the J-Bay Open was suspended for the day.

Rare to see anybody attacked by shark on video, even more so to see a professional surfer attacked by shark in mid-competition.

I've written on a lot of your favorite websites while I live in my mother's basement. If you only knew what a hard time I'm having holding these alligators down. Woo. | Twitter: @GuyHut | FB: @GuyHutSports
