The PawSox have called Pawtucket home for over four decades, but all good things must apparently come to an end and the 42-year run of the Pawtucket Red Sox is coming to an end.
That’s because the Boston Red Sox’s Triple A team will be move under new ownership, though at this time nobody knows where exactly they’re going.
The mayor told radio station WPRO that he was briefed by the team Sunday. He did not disclose the new owners or where they will move the team. Television station NBC 10 reported the team would move to Providence.The Globe reported Sunday that the Red Sox are among the new owners along with a local group….
Grebien said the new owners told him it didn’t make sense to spend money on the stadium and they are instead looking at establishing a destination stadium.
Back in 1970, the PawSox debuted as the Boston Red Sox’s AA minor league affiliate though just a few years later become the AAA team and have seen absurd amounts of talent like David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Nomar Garcipara and others either suit up via injury or work their way through the Red Sox’s system.
Always a bit sad to see any franchise, be it pro or minor, leave a town they’ve call home for so long.
