Are Royals Cheating In World Series With Pine Tar?

Another World Series, another questionable substance appearing.

That’s because Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez was captured by FOX cameras rubbing the side of his catching gear multiple times during the game. And what’s the big problem with that, you ask?

Nothing, other than the fact the portion of the catching equipment that Sal Perez was rubbing over and over happened to be saturated with pine tar.

Ironically enough, it’s not illegal for a player to have pine tar on their gear/uniform, other than the pitcher. Of course, when it’s Salvador Perez – the catcher – feeding the balls back to the Kansas City Royals pitchers, it’s going to raise a few eyebrows – legal or not.

Royals manager Ned Yoast was asked about the presumed sticky substance on Perez’s gear and reiterated the fact that it’s not illegal for a non-pitcher to have it on their uniform or equipment, though would not go as far as to confirm that it was indeed pine tar.

Of course, this is just part of the gamesmanship in baseball, so it’s a little bit of a stretch to suggest the Royals are ‘cheating’. I’d venture to guess there is probably additional shenanigans going on in the New York Mets dugout as well, considering every time tries to gain an advantage. This of course isn’t the first time we’ve seen a catcher do such.

Still, eyes will be extra focused on the Royals during the rest of the World Series, I’m sure.
