Before the Los Angeles Lakers selected D’Angelo Russell with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, there were whispers suggesting Mitch Kupchak and company liked Emmanuel Mudiay and could trade down in the draft to acquire him.
Such never happened and Emmanuel Mudiay was selected by the Denver Nuggets a few picks later.
That didn’t sit well with the point guard, who was supposed to attend SMU before heading overseas who holds a grudge against the Lakers for drafting another one over him.
“They passed up on me; that’s definitely a motivation,” Mudiay told Los Angeles News Group after morning shootaround at West Chester High School. “They took another point guard ahead of me. I’m a point guard. So I guess they saw something in [Russell] that they didn’t see in me.”
Part of the reason the Lakers were said to pass on Mudiay was that many, including head coach Byronn Scott, didn’t see him as a point guard.
That’s why Emmanuel Mudiay decided to troll the Lakers on Tuesday night, after dishing out ten dimes.
Emmanuel Mudiay, after collecting 10 assists tonight: "Thank you Byron Scott for saying I'm not a point guard." #Nuggets
