Russell Westbrook Trade: Where Will He Land?

With Kevin Durant now officially Stephen Curry‘s teammate on the Golden State Warriors, many are wondering what Durant’s former team – the Oklahoma City Thunder – will do with Russell Westbrook. More importantly, is there a Russell Westbrook trade in the future?

Yes, according to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report who says not only have the Thunder all but decided to trade Westbrook, but suggest there is already a destination picked out.

Is it the New York Knicks? Chicago Bulls? Maybe replace Dwyane Wade with the Miami Heat? Perhaps take over for Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers considering he’s a former UCLA star?

Actually, it’s none of the above as Beck notes a Russell Westbrook trade is likely to happen with the Boston Celtics.

“Let’s just say there’s a very strong suspicion, a strong belief among rival GM’s that Russell Westbrook is not intending to stay, that he would leave next summer when he hits free agency. And because of that the logical next step is that (Thunder GM) Sam Presti who is always ahead of the curve on these things will look to trade him. I don’t know that that’s happening right this moment.”

“What I’m hearing here in Las Vegas from some GM’s is that not only do they think Westbrook will get traded, that it’ll be sooner rather than later, probably before the season starts. And that the most likely destination right now would be the Boston Celtics.”

Currently, Isaiah Thomas holds down the Celtics point guard position, but he is a free agent at season end. You’d have to assume any deal involving Westbrook, assuming it was to go down this season, would involve Thomas among many other assets.
