Just when you thought the Cleveland Browns couldn’t become more of a debacle, Johnny Manziel‘s team is now on the hot seat for potentially sending illegal texts. No, they weren’t to a prospective free agent or coach, but rather sending texts down to their own sideline.
NFL investigators have been to Cleveland to look into whether text messages were sent from the Browns’ front office to their sideline during games last season.
According to ESPN, texts were allegedly sent from the front office to those on the sidelines, namely coaches which allegedly was part of the reason Kyle Shanahan requested to be relieved of his duties with the organization.
While texting seems like a relatively minor offense, it’s still against the NFL’s rules which state there is to be no electronic communication during games unless league approved.
As of right now, the NFL has no ruling on the situation and the Cleveland Browns are being relatively quiet regarding the investigation so little is known about the situation or what’s going on. Either way, it’s yet another black eye for the league who’s currently dealing with Deflategate. Now they have a team sending texts during game action? If it’s not one thing, it’s another.
