ESPN Called Fidel Castro ‘Savior’ And People Went Nuts

ESPN

If I asked you to describe Fidel Castro in one word – you could probably come up with thousands – but you certainly wouldn’t call him a ‘savior’. Well, unless you were ESPN.

For whatever reason, somebody at the World Wide Leader decided it would be a good decision to post a link to a Fidel Castro story on Twitter, via the @SportsCenter Twitter handle in which the communist leader was called a savior.

Granted, we know where they were going with the tweet but really? What editor thought that was an okay decision?

Understandably, people went nuts when they noticed ESPN called Fidel Castro a savior and the tweet referencing such was quickly deleted. But the internet took notice quickly and saved a picture of the tweet for all to see:

espn fidel castro

The whole reason behind the four-minute long Fidel Castro inspired video, which the ESPN tweet was in reference to, was a mini-documentary on sports culture in Cuba under the reign of the dictator.

President Obama became the first President in 88 years to travel to Cuba this morning, which is the basis for the story.

Frankly, they probably should have avoided the topic completely, especially when it came to giving any sort of praise to Fidel Castro. But a savior? Yikes.
