Might this finally be the year that former top prospect Jesus Montero gets his act together and becomes the player so many expected him to become? That remains to be seen, though the Seattle Mariners catcher turned first baseman/designated hitter has reportedly lost 40 pounds and is already at his recommended weight, weeks before Spring Training is to begin.
Trainer Rick Griffin on Montero: he is at his reporting weight of 235 lbs.

Jesus Montero has battled weight issues since he was traded by the New York Yankees to the Seattle Mariners and famously nearly attacked a scout who sent him an ice cream bar in an epic troll job last year.
Once a very talented prospect, Montero’s weight seemingly got the best of him and not only took away his prospect status but nearly took him out of the game completely. Now on what might be his last chance, the Seattle Mariners gave Montero a desired target weight which he’s already hit weeks before he’s to report to camp.
It’s only one step of many to take, though it can only be viewed as a positive for both Jesus Montero and the Seattle Mariners.
Hopefully the drop in pounds will put him back in the right direction and he’ll be a contributor moving forward.
