Philadelphia Phillies Rumors: Interested In Chad Billingsley

Sure, the Philadelphia Phillies might be considering Cole Hamels trades, but the front office feels they can compete this season. That might be wishful thinking with the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves in the same division, but Philly is said to be looking for some lottery ticket deals to better their chances of success. One such idea is signing former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Chad Billingsley.

It’s been a while since Billingsley was effective, though there was a time when he anchored the Dodgers staff before Clayton Kershaw took over the role.

In the time since Chad Billingsley has dealt with injury though said to be healthy, the pitcher is looking for a new team and the Phillies might come calling.

The Phillies are showing serious interest in free-agent right-hander Chad Billingsley, a major-league source tells CSNPhilly.com.

Billingsley, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Dodgers and was a mainstay in that team’s starting rotation from 2008 to 2012 before elbow problems sent him to the sidelines.

Such a deal would essentially be zero risk for the Phillies as they could likely obtain Billingsley on a one-year minor league deal without any serious investment.

He boosts a very solid 3.65 ERA in nearly 1,200 career innings.
