James Shields Rumors: Miami Marlins Showing Interest

James Shields
Pitcher James Shields

It’s been a busy day for James Shields news as the free agent pitcher is unlikely to sign with the San Diego Padres, through multiple other teams have shown an interest in the former Kansas City Royals ace.

We’ve already heard about the Milwaukee Brewers who are said to be intrigued by Shields, but the Miami Marlins have also been monitoring his situation according to Jim Bowden.

The Marlins have been attempting to show fans and players they’re willing to spend money, though with the Washington Nationals looking formidable, Miami may need to make some additional moves to keep up. Adding Shields would obviously be a great addition as he’d anchor the staff until Jose Fernandez returns in June. They’d also be a hefty 1-2 punch assuming Fernandez returns to form.

Of course, James Shields won’t come cheaply and the Marlins have bankrolled themselves on the back of Giancarlo Stanton, so it’s questionable if they’d be able to afford such, especially if it’s a long-term deal. For now though it appears they’re just watching, potentially to see if his price drops any further as Spring Training nears.
