Dwyane Wade Asks NBA To Protect Players From Rude Fans

Dwyane Wade

Earlier this week, Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade was fined $15,000 dollars by the NBA after he made an ‘obscene gesture’ towards a fan. That didn’t sit well with Wade, who says he was being harassed by the rude fan.

That’s why he’s now asking the NBA to protect players from unruly fans as noted by CTV  News.

“The NBA is an unbelievable league, and I’m one of the first ones to be doing NBA Cares and all these things in the community, but they need to protect us a little more,” Wade told The Associated Press. “They need to do a better job of protecting players in the arena. It’s open game on us. We’re big boys, we can take it, but everyone has their breaking point.”

Routinely we see players, not just in the NBA but in other professional leagues, get harassed by drunk fans with little consequence. Just a few weeks ago Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors was subjected to such while attending the NFL playoff game between the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks.

What exactly the league could do for Dwyane Wade and other players is currently not known, though hopefully something comes from it as players often deal with a significant amount of verbal abuse.
