The Chicago Cubs on pace to become the greatest baseball team of all-time? Yeah, that’s not something you probably ever thought you’d mutter, but it’s a reality – at least currently.
According to the ‘Elo Rating’ system, the Cubs – headed by Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant and Jon Lester – are currently on pace to become one of the greatest baseball teams of all-time, putting them up with elite squads like the 1927 New York Yankees and more.
“The Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds have had a rough start and could make a run at new Elo lows for their franchises. But the real team to watch is the Chicago Cubs, who have started the season at 24-6 with an incredible +102 run differential. It’s a hard pace to keep up, but if they do, the Cubs could make a run at becoming one of the greatest teams of all time.“
Of course, we’re just a few weeks into the baseball season and we’ve already seen the Cubs lose one of their major key players to injury. Given that, plenty can happen in the coming months. All that said, it’s hard to deny the Chicago Cubs are certainly one of the MLB’s elite.
One of the greatest ever? That remains to be seen. Certainly a change of course in the Windy City, however. And it doesn’t hurt when you have hot fans like Elle Johnson, above.
