Dayan Viciedo Rumors: A’s, Rangers, Phillies, Mariners Interested?

Dayan Viciedo

On Wednesday afternoon, the Chicago White Sox shockingly designated Dayan Viciedo for assignment to make roster space for Gordon Beckham. The move sent some shock waves throughout MLB front offices, a handful of such who may have interest in signing the 25-year-old outfielder.

Possible interest could come from the Oakland A’s, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and Seattle Mariners who all could stand to take a risk on the talented Viciedo according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn shouldn’t have trouble developing a trade market for Dayan Viciedo — even if he limited himself to the American League West.

Corey Seidman spoke about potential interest from the Phillies:

Could the Phillies be interested? They should be. Viciedo is young enough, and although he doesn’t have exorbitant upside, he does have the type of 25-home run power that is nearing extinction in the majors.

It’s not very often that a 25-year-old with significant pop hits the waiver wire. The Chicago White Sox would not only love to get something for him in return but also have somebody pick up his salary, so they’ll be inclined to move him. Of course, those teams with interest could attempt to let the outfielder become a free agent so they don’t have to pay him, but they’d risk losing out on his services.

He’s a relatively low-risk, potential high-reward player – a headache the White Sox are more than willing to transfer elsewhere.
