Cole Hamels Trade Rumors: San Diego Padres In The Mix

Cole Hamels

Could the San Diego Padres be in the market to make yet another blockbuster move? They’ve already acquired Justin Upton and Wil Myers in recent weeks and it appears as if another big move could be possible.

That’s the word from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports who states the Padres are “alive” in a potential trade acquiring Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels.

For months rumors have swirled suggesting Hamels is available, though only for the right price which is said to be at least three high-level prospects. Most teams have balked at the absurdly elevated price, though it appears as if the Padres are going for broke and are willing to put a hefty dent in their minor league system to win now.

Unfortunately for the San Diego Padres, they’re not the only team in on Hamels.

The aggressive Padres are still said to be alive for another potential blockbuster — Philly’s ace left-hander Cole Hamels.Although, with others teams also in the mix, it isn’t known how likely San Diego is to land Hamels, a hometown hero from San Diego.

Other teams like the Boston Red Sox have been previously linked to Cole Hamels, so if the southpaw is traded, whomever wins the bid will have plenty of competition in the process.

For now though some believe the Padres are the front runner to land the pitcher, including a rival GM, as noted by Heyman.
