Yankees Moving Alex Rodriguez To First Base?

Alex Rodriguez

For Alex Rodriguez‘s entire career, the veteran has played on the left side of the infield. That might be changing however as A-Rod has recently been working on his game at first base. Could that mean the New York Yankees are pondering moving Alex Rodriguez to first base?

Perhaps, though, it’s unlikely to be a full time role. While A-Rod will likely still play third base occasionally, that’s a spot currently held down by Chase Headley who is a far better defender. Given that, it’s likely Alex Rodriguez will be shifting around in a utility role which will include time at first base which is manned by the oft injured Mark Teixeira.

He had no first baseman’s glove, zero experience at the position and seemingly, not much enthusiasm for learning it on the first day.

And yet, there was Alex Rodriguez on the practice field at Steinbrenner Field on Friday, taking grounders at first base, practicing fielding bunts and flipping to the pitcher covering, and — with less than ideal results — firing across the diamond to (the general vicinity of) the third baseman.

In addition to workout out at first base, A-Rod has also been seen at shortstop (his former position) so it’s likely the Bronx Bombers will simply throw Rodriguez at whatever position they see fit for the day.
