Bryce Harper: Cubs Are Joke If Kris Bryant Doesn’t Make Roster

Kris Bryant

On Saturday we documented that there’s a strong chance Kris Bryant, the No. 1 prospect in baseball, might not make the Chicago Cubs opening day roster.

Such a move wouldn’t be because Bryant isn’t ready for baseball at the Major League level, but rather an issue of politics. Simply put, if the Cubs delay bringing Kris Bryant up for a few weeks, they’ll gain an extra year of Kris Bryant’s service.

That’s a pretty big deal considering the third baseman is represented by power agent Scott Boras, who is notorious for letting his clients test free agency. But oddly enough, such a decision isn’t sitting well with Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals who says it’s a joke if the Chicago Cubs don’t name Kris Bryant to their roster out of spring training.

You’re probably asking yourself why Bryce Harper is so concerned with what the Cubs do with Kris Bryant, but both are familiar with each other as they’re natives of Las Vegas and have a somewhat close relationship off the baseball field.

Bryant, despite not starting on Saturday, clubbed his fifth and sixth home runs of the spring and is clearly ready for the big leagues. He just might have to wait a little bit longer for the debut.
