Mets’ Zack Wheeler Out For Season With Tommy John Surgery

Zack Wheeler

The New York Mets can’t catch a break, though they can certainly tear a ligament or two. That’s exactly what happened to budding star pitcher Zack Wheeler who will miss the remainder of the season as he’s expected to undergo Tommy John Surgery.

Acquired for Carlos Beltran from the San Francisco Giants a few seasons back, the Mets hoped Wheeler would eventually become a staff ace and while he hasn’t reached such status to this point, he looks like a player who could anchor the starting pitching rotation in the years to come.

The loss will be a tough blow for the Mets however as it’s wasted year for Zack Wheeler who the team is hopeful will be ready for the 2016 season.

Zack Wheeler had complained of soreness in his throwing arm last week, though it was believed to be nothing overly serious. That of course changed after the pain refused to subside and the Mets made Wheeler undergo further testing.

Ironically enough, the New York Mets lost staff ace Matt Harvey to Tommy John surgery last season, and how now lost Zack Wheeler to the same injury.
