It’s been said that no matter how many baseball games you’ve watched, no matter how many baseball games you’ve attended, you’ll almost always see something new on a nightly basis.
I’m not really sure how true that is, but I’m venturing to guess most fans at the St. Louis Cardinals – Chicago Cubs Sunday Night game had never seen a player catch a baseball with his butt.
Oddly enough, that’s exactly what occured.
Wit the Cubs at the dish, what looks to be Starlin Castro hit a line drive down the third base line. It was a clear foul ball, but the Cubs player/coach in charge of protecting the bullpen wasn’t able to get to the bouncing ball in time.
It immediately went right into the blackened crotch of the Chicago Cubs bullpen catcher who caught the foul ball with his butt.
Yes, you read that correctly – a Chicago Cubs player caught a foul ball with his butt.
I’ve been hit with a baseball before, plenty of times, even at lesser speeds than that and let me tell you – not a good feeling.
Granted, there was some cushion there, but it’s not like his cup and jock strap wrapped all the way around or anything. Dude took that foul ball to the butt like a champ.
Just be glad it was the bullpen catcher and not somebody like Jon Lester or Anthony Rizzo.
