While a handful of teams are doing what they can to lure LaMarcus Aldridge in NBA free agency, the Portland Trail Blazers sit on the outside looking in.
Even one of their assistant coaches suggested earlier in the day that the All-Star is heading elsewhere.
Or is he? Not if Damian Lillard can prevent it as the point guard is flying to Los Angeles where Aldridge met with the Lakers earlier this afternoon in effort to convince him to stay with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Here’s yet another wrinkle, too, the agent for Portland Trailblazers point guard Damian Lillard, Aaron Goodwin, told USA TODAY Sports that his client is planning an impromptu visit to Los Angeles to try and convince his former teammate to stay. Lillard, who finalized a five-year extension worth between $125 and $129 million on Thursday, just returned from a promotional trip in Paris. The relationship between those two players has been a focal point of Aldridge’s possible departure from Portland.
Lillard, who signed a brand new contract just a few days ago, certainly doesn’t want his teammate heading to another Western Conference foe and is doing what he can to prevent such.
Should be interesting to see if it works.
