Boston Red Sox Make Cole Hamels Trade Offer

Boston Red Sox make Cole Hamels trade offer but are rebuffed.

It’s no secret the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox have held trade discussions centered around Cole Hamels. What hasn’t been known though is if the talks actually ended up in trade offers or if the two sides were simply doing their due diligence.

We’ve already heard about the Phillies seeking one of the Red Sox’s best prospects Blake Swihart, something Boston isn’t interested in doing, but apparently the two sides have actually held serious Cole Hamels trade discussions and the Red Sox even made the Phillies a trade offer.

Unfortunately for Boston, the deal wasn’t what Philadelphia was looking for.

General manager Ruben Amaro said last week that four teams had made offers for Hamels. One of them, according to a major league source, was the Red Sox. But what we’ve been able to piece together through various sources is that the package Boston offered was heavy on the major league side, trying to avoid giving up any of their top prospects. Suffice it to say, that won’t get you Hamels.

To Philadelphia’s credit, they continue to hold their feet firmly planted in the sand when it comes to Cole Hamels trade offers and won’t budge if the deal isn’t exactly what they’re looking for. Of course, the longer the situation plays on and the Cole Hamels rumors continue, you have to wonder if it will drag the trade price down.

Regardless, if the Boston Red Sox want to trade for the Philadelphia Phillies ace they’re going to have to part with high-level prospects.
