Brewers Considering Re-Signing Francisco Rodriguez

Francisco Rodriguez

For weeks the Milwaukee Brewers have held trade discussions with the Philadelphia Phillies regarding Jonathan Papelbon, though those talks have seemingly slowed and now they’ve turned their interest to a familiar face in Francisco Rodriguez.

Better known as ‘K-Rod’, the veteran closer was lights out for the Milwaukee Brewers during the first half of the season last year, though appeared to tire after the All-Star break and was rather hittable from that point on.

Still, Francisco Rodriguez converted 44 out or 49 save chances and would be a solid addition to the Brewers if he was to return.

The Brewers are also considering free-agent reliever Francisco Rodriguez, who had a nice year in Milwaukee last year and remains another closing option. The Brewers are believed to have a somewhat limiting budget, but word is that the issue with Philly is over the player return, so perhaps the sides are close on the finances of the deal, anyway.

It appears that if all things were equal, the Brewers would prefer to have Jonathan Papelbon on their roster over K-Rod and are using their former closer as a bit of a backup plan.

Of course, Rodriguez isn’t going to remain on the open market much longer with spring training right around the corner so Milwaukee will need to expedite a decision before they lose out on both players.
