I don’t know many people who hated ‘Saved by the Bell’, especially if they children of the late 80’s and early 90’s,
Cheesy as the television show was, it was a staple for America’s youth.
Unfortunately for many, WGN often broadcasted Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski to the masses which was sometimes taken off the air to televise Chicago Cubs games.
That didn’t sit well with current New York Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson, who says he hates the Chicago Cubs because of that.
It’s fitting that Granderson’s signature move — other than driving fastballs into the seats — is rooted in blue-collar sensibilities and situation comedy checkpoints. Growing up in Chicago, Granderson was a big fan of the sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” and nothing wrecked his day more than rushing home from school with no homework, flipping on the TV and seeing Ryne Sandberg and Mark Grace rather than Screech and the Bayside High School gang. The disappointment was enough to turn him into an Atlanta Braves fan.
Ironically enough, just a few years later, TBS actually picked up ‘Saved by the Bell’ in syndication and would preemptively cut off the show to televise Atlanta Braves games, though by that time Curtis Granderson was on his way to playing professional baseball.
