Milwaukee Brewers Sign Closer ‘K-Rod’ Francisco Rodriguez

Francisco Rodriguez

For weeks the Milwaukee Brewers and closer ‘K-Rod’ (also known as Francisco Rodriguez) have danced around a potential contract. Yet, the two sides weren’t ever able to find a middle ground. That has changed this morning though as Rodriguez and the Brewers have agreed upon a two-year contract.

According to CBS Sports the deal will also include a third year option.

Reports suggest the contract will be worth $3 million this season and $6 million next year, a far cry from the alleged $10 million annually that Francisco Rodriguez was said to be seeking.

Multiple teams outside of the Brewers had interest in K-Rod, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, though it seems as if Milwaukee’s offer was the best he was going to get. He also comes back to the Brewers knowing he’ll be their closer, an assurance he didn’t really have elsewhere.

The veteran was nothing short of lights out for the Milwaukee Brewers during the early portion of the 2014 season though stumbled after the All-Star break before eventually turning the corner.

It’s a solid deal for both parties as K-Rod will continue to close while the Brewers got a relatively fair and team friendly deal completed in the process.
