NBA Rumors: Knicks, Hawks, Lakers Want Greg Monroe

Greg Monroe

With Josh Smith now a member of the Houston Rockets, there is some hope in Motown that Greg Monroe will re-sign with the Detroit Pistons at season end. Of course, they’ll have serious competition for his services as teams like the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks are expected to bid on the big man soon as he becomes available.

Whether Monroe gets a true max or not, he’s going to receive a lucrative deal, and the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks are among the possible suitors.

Because the Pistons couldn’t ink Greg Monroe on the dotted line for a contract extension last season, he’s currently playing on a one-year qualifying offer meaning he’ll be an unrestricted free agent at season end.

In simple terms, if he wants to leave the Detroit Pistons in free agency there’s nothing they can do about it, which wasn’t the case this past offseason.

Nobody really knows how strained the relationship between the Pistons and Greg Monroe is, though it seems safe to assume he’ll certainly become a free agent and let the process play itself out. That’s all the Lakers, Knicks and Hawks are hoping for as they attempt to woo him in free agency as NBA rumors start to swing into full motion.
