NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Want To Sign Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant

It’s been a little odd to see the Miami Heat and Dwyane Wade having their differences in regards to their contractual negotiations, but now we may have a better indication as to why that’s going down.

Accoridng to the Miami Herald, the Heat are wanting Wade to opt-in to his contract so they can be in position to sign Kevin Durant when he becomes a free agent, assuming the Oklahoma City Thunder can’t re-sign the former NBA MVP.

The Heat seems to want Wade to opt into his contract for next season at $16 million, then become a free agent and leave their and his future blank-check open. This will give the Heat the flexibility it craves to make a run at a player like Kevin Durant.

As shocking as it might sound, the Miami Heat will have the cap room to sign Kevin Durant even with Goran Dragic, Hassan Whiteside, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade on the books, assuming the latter does opt-in to his contract.

Of course, Wade, who took a discount for the Heat when they originally signed the aforementioned Bosh and LeBron James might not want to do so again, though the idea of playing alongside Kevin Durant has to be something he consider doing it for.

Granted, it’s a long shot and Wade might not want to take that chance and cost himself more money.
