NBA Rumors: Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love Eying Lakers?

Russell Westbrook

While there has been a ton of NBA rumors surrounding the eventual landing spot of Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder have another pressing free agent scenario unfolding with Russell Westbrook.

The point guard is only signed one season longer than Durant and there is growing speculation that Mr. Triple Double could eventually leave for greener pastures. That noise has only increased with speculation that former UCLA alum Kevin Love, who is rumored to be unhappy with his situation on the Cleveland Cavaliers, could be interested in playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Now according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, there is talk the two could team up together and return to their roots in Southern California with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Love enjoys Westbrook. They have a relationship. There’s a conspiracy theory that exists out there that Kevin Love will go to the Lakers this summer, or next summer, and then Westbrook will join him when he’s a free agent, and they will reunite in LA, like they played for UCLA. The guy, the star player he has the best relationship in the league with is Westbrook.”

Granted, this is all speculation at this point but you really have to wonder how much longer Kevin Love will be okay playing as the third wheel in the shadow of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, especially when there’s a chance to return home with the Lakers.

As for Russell Westbrook, he’d be the player you’d assume to more likely stay with his current franchise, but nobody knows what his plan is considering nobody knows what Kevin Durant plans to do.

Either way, until somebody signs an extension, there are going to be a lot of rumors suggesting Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love will team up to take over Kobe Bryant‘s Los Angeles Lakers.
