San Diego Chargers To Retire LaDainian Tomlinson’s Jersey

The San Diego Chargers and former running back great LaDainian Tomlinson didn’t exactly have the best breakup, but it appears all feelings have been mended because the legendary football player is set to become a member of the team’s Hall of Fame.

In addition to being honored into the Bolts Hall of Fame, the San Diego Chargers will retire LaDainian Tomlinson’s jersey, making it so no other player will ever be able to wear the famed #21 uniform.

“This is a special, special opportunity for the Chargers family and all Chargers fans,” Chargers chairman Dean Spanos said in a statement. “Few players, if any, have meant more to this franchise than LT. He was the heart and soul of this team through one of the most successful decades in our history. I couldn’t wait to watch him play every week because I knew I would see something special. And that’s what he gave all of us: special memories we’ll carry with us forever.”

You figured this would eventually come given the importance of Tomlinson to the Chargers. The guy is atop pretty much every offensive category in Chargers history, but you wondered of the once icy relationship would play a factor into when.

Apparently not though as the ceremony will take place during their nationally televised Sunday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
