Steve Smith Allegedly Tried To Fight After Patriots Beat Ravens

At his peak, Steve Smith was one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.

Now a bit older, Smith isn’t the player he once was though he’s still rather effective as he proved for the Baltimore Ravens this past season. He’s also a bit of a combustible product, which is part of the reason the Carolina Panthers decided to cut ties with their former franchise star before the season.

That volatile personality allegedly surfaced yet again this past weekend when Smith, after the Ravens playoff loss to the New England Patriots, allegedly attempted to fight former teammate and one time Patriots tight end Jermaine Wiggins.

According to CBS Boston, Wiggins was with his family when Smith approached him and the two began speaking about an incident in which Wiggins previously called Steve Smith a bully. The exchange became rather heated and witnesses say it looked as if things were about to get physical.

New England Patriots radio color commentator Scott Zolak, who came across the incident gave his view on what took place.

So [Smith] sees Wiggy and he’s like ‘Yo, what’s up?!’ And Wiggy’s like, ‘Hey, what’s up?’ And Smith is like, ‘No dude, what the bleep’s up?’ And Wiggy’s like, ‘Oh no, now you’re swearing in front of my kids.’ And he’s like, ‘You gotta step off.’ And then it starts getting nasty.

And Steve is like, ‘You called me a bully! So what’s up with that? You know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna bleep you right now.’

There are always two sides to every story, though Steve Smith does have a bit of a reputation for being over the top and it’s doubtful Wiggins nor Zolak have any reason to fabricate such.
