San Diego sports reporter shot: CBS 8’s Kyle Kraska shot and taken into emergency surgery.
A bit of a strange story to report this evening out of Southern California as a sports news anchor was shot outside his home on Tuesday evening.
According to CBS News 8, San Diego sports reporter Kyle Kraska was shot in the 12000 block of Avontte Court shortly after 3:00 p.m.
Kraska, who not only handles the sports director duties for CBS 8 but also the nightly sports casts along with working alongside the San Diego Padres and San Diego Chargers was found by neighbors in the street who were giving the sports reporter first aid when emergency arrived on the scene.
A doctor was waiting for Kraska at the hospital and rushed him into the ER. Kraska has suffered gunshot wounds to his leg and the left side of his stomach.
The incident began when shots were fired into the rear window of Kraska’s Mercedes. Then, his car appeared to pull out of the driveway and the confrontation spilled into the street in front of Kraska’s home. At that time, another round of gunshots were heard.
Kraska, in addition to his television work, is a popular figure in the San Diego sports community and often takes part in many of the local sporing events.
Authorities do have a suspect in mind as according to the SDPD, Mike Montana is alleged to have pulled the trigger and is said to be armed and dangerous. The relationship between the two men is not known currently.
A veteran of the station, Kraska is a big supporter of both the Chargers and Padres and has routinely praised the play of Philip Rivers this past season and the Padres’ acquisitions of Justin Upton, Matt Kemp and James Shields in recent weeks.
